| It is with great pleasure and anticipation, and also a bit of sadness, that we announce Small A Projects’ move to New York. The rich and diverse community of Portland has provided us with unparalleled opportunities to experiment and grow in ways we hadn’t thought possible when we opened our doors in 2005. The singular beauty and fierce independent spirit of Portland are but two of the things we will miss dearly. We are grateful for the support, camaraderie, and dialogue over the last three years, and we look forward continuing these relationships as we pursue new opportunities in New York. Starting in September, Small A Projects will operate from a storefront at the corner of Broome and Orchard in Manhattan’s Lower East Side. It is a vibrant and varied neighborhood, and increasingly, a destination for galleries and not-for-profit art spaces. We will open our new gallery space with the group exhibition 200597214100022008, which examines timekeeping and anniversary marking as well as documents of change, transition and obsolescence. We are excited to meet new and old acquaintances in our new space this fall and at the NADA art fair in Miami this winter. We would like to take this opportunity to thank the following artists whose work has been included in exhibitions at Small A Projects since we opened our doors in Portland’s Central Eastside in 2005: Kevin Abell, Graham Anderson, Michael Bise, Sarah Braman & Phil Grauer, AA Bronson, Barb Choit, Zoe Crosher, Dana Dart-Mclean, Craig Doty, Cheryl Dunn, Alex Felton, Michael Haanel, Erik Hanson, Laura Heyman, Corin Hewitt, Jessica Jackson Hutchins, Jamie Isenstein, Leigh Ledare, Bob Linder, Andrea Longacre-White, Anissa Mack, Josh Mannis, Dave McKenzie, Donal Moser, Carter Mull, Michael Patterson-Carver, Mitzi Pederson, Diana Puntar, Eileen Quinlan, Terry Richardson, Will Rogan, Michelle Rosenberg, Amanda Ross-Ho, Amy Sarkisian, Asha Schechter, Dave Schubert, Josh Shaddock, Deanna Templeton, Ed Templeton, Allyson Vieira, Jennifer West, Jesse Willenbring, and Michael Zahn. We would also like to thank Tina Kukielski, Harrell Fletcher, Jo Jackson, Chris Johanson and Carter Mull for curating our summer shows and special projects. The integrity, commitment and intelligence of these artists and curators has inspired us and shaped the gallery. We look forward to working with many of them and others in the years to come. The gallery will be closed for the summer. The opening date of our September exhibition will be announced shortly. Please direct any further inquiries via email to laurel@smallaprojects.com. Thanks, Laurel Gitlen (Owner/Director) |
